Fuengirola liegt rund 30 Kilometer entfernt vom internationalen Flughafen Malaga entfernt und wird von den Gemeinden Mijas und Benalmadena umschloßen. Auf einer Küsten- oder Strandlänge von rund 7 Kilometer liegen fast ausschließlich Appartementanlagen und das Angebot von freistehenden Villen in Strandnähe ist sehr gering. Je weiter man in die Urbanizationen fährt, die auf dem Gebiet ins Landesinnere, bis an die Grenze zu Mijas, liegen ändert sich das Immobilienangebot in Anlagen mit Reihenhäusern oder Villen. Speziell diese Objekte haben meist Südausrichtung und bieten einen Panoramablick aufs Meer und an klaren Tagen auf die Küste Afrikas. Fuengirola besitzt eine sehr gute Infrastruktur, mit Abstrichen im Angebot an internationalen Schulen. Die Verbindung bis zur Deutschen Schule in Elviria wird über den Schulbus der Schule gewährleistet. Im Ort selbst befinden sich unter anderem große Handelsketten wie das Corte Ingles oder Carrefour und das große Einkaufszentrum Myramar. Für Freizeitangebote abgesehen vom Strandleben, findet man viele Sportvereine und Sportanlagen für sehr unterschiedliche Aktivitäten. Auf dem Weg ins Landesinnere findet man eine große Reitanlage und Pferderennbahn, das Hypodrom von Fuengirola.
